Here are the basics of how to use the Aerochamber and inhaler correctly. There are 2 ways to use it correctly (read below). 1️⃣The first way: Once the inhaler is placed into the Aerochamber, press down on the inhaler ONCE and take a nice slow deep breath over 3-5 seconds. Then remove the mouthpiece from the mouth and hold your breath for 10 seconds. 2️⃣This second method is if you (or the patient) can't hold their breath: You follow the exact same steps as in Part 1 EXCEPT instead of removing the mouthpiece from the mouth and holding your breath you (or the patient) will press down on the inhaler ONCE and breath in 4-6 times. 🔵 For both methods repeat the process with however many puffs that was prescribed by the healthcare provider. Soooo I quit my full time bedside job. 🙃 In all seriousness, I had an amazing opportunity that I would have been foolish to turn down. There truly is so much I love about working bedside… but the moment I stepped out the door after my last shift I felt a weight lifted. If this is relatable to you, just know… being a bedside nurse does not define you. Follow what makes your heart soar and what is healthiest for you and don’t apologize for it. I know I’m my bones that I’m not done with the ER forever, but I also know that I’m better for not being there full time at this point in my life. Don’t worry…. I’ll still have plenty of opportunity to wear scrubs, especially this new Figs jumpsuit (one in every color, please!) A highly proficient nurse & clinical expert doesn’t mean they’re a good teacher of it! When pairing new grad/new nurses with a clinical preceptor, the literature tells us the most experienced veteran nurse can lose their ability to break down and articulate the concepts, risks, & details of their work bc they’re so high functioning - they can actually forget important pieces and impede the learning process. In fact, there’s evidence suggesting nurses with less experience, around 3-8yrs-ish of experience, are most likely the best teachers/preceptors. Mainly because of the recency in which they acquired their own competence, allows them an ability to breakdown their practice into teachable/learnable chunks in a way that supports a new nurse cultivating their own clinical competence.
