These cages are a game-changes, helping us nurture a thriving and sustainable garden! Big changes are happening at Los Cerritos!🐾🌿 To protect our plants and veggies from gophers and squirrels, we've added new critter cages to our garden beds.🌱 #GardenTransformation #CritterProof #GrowingDreams #LBUSD LongBeach #SchoolGarden
First time building my own garden bed! 🌱 I started with a layer of cardboard to smother weeds and create a solid foundation. Wetting the cardboard helps it break down faster, turning it into rich organic matter that nourishes the soil over time. Next, I added a thin layer of natural, non-dyed mulch. Mulch is like a blanket for the soil—it locks in moisture, keeps weeds at bay, and as it decomposes, it boosts soil fertility. Then came the lasagna method, which is all about layering! I alternated between organic compost (packed with nutrients) and a mix of organic soil and perlite. The compost feeds the plants, while the soil-perlite mix keeps everything light and airy, ensuring good drainage and root growth. Layer by layer, I built it up, creating a nutrient-rich environment for my plants to thrive. 🌸 #gardenproject #gardening101 #gardeninghacks #planttiktok #gardenersoftiktok #gardentok #gardentiktok #gardentips

Does adding logs in garden bed work? Two years ago we had setup two garden beds that are a foot deep and filled it mostly with rotted logs, twigs, egg cartons, green and brown leaves, compost and top off with regular soil. This method can be referred to as hugelkultur. If you’re trying to save cost on filling deep garden beds, this method works. It reduces soil cost and watering since the logs and other materials retain moisture. In terms if Nitrogen loss, it’s not immediate because it does take time for the logs to break down and the organic matter that you add on top will provide the nutrients needed to grow the plants. This method also increases biodiversity which helps create a habitat for beneficial insects and microorganisms. When the materials settle, the soil level drops. What we do is chop off greens, add brown leaves and compost at the end of the season to keep building up and rejuvenate the soil. If nitrogen loss is a concern, adding amendments like feather meal and blood meal will help. The difference is that feather meal is a slow release fertilizer and blood meal is more fast acting. Both will provide lots of nitrogen in the soil. We are happy with the result and we will continue to do this again for any future garden beds. #gardening #garden #gardening101 #learn #fypシ
You can grab our cedar beds and our eco friendly protectant today and get them in time for the holidays. Here are my top tips for making your raised beds last longer: 🌿Select a wood that is durable 🌿Buy the thickets boards you can afford 🌿Seal your beds with an eco friendly preservative (we have the eco seal in our shop) 🌿Even if you don’t want to put gravel in your walkways, at least place it under your beds to keep the wood from touching wet earth 🌿Keep your walkways and garden space clean and dry Don’t forget to shop my TikTok shop to see all our raised bed options so you can get your own raised bed in time for the holidays #raisedbeds #raisedgardens #vegetablegarden #gardenary #gardentips
I was on a budget, but wanted a good raised bed to keep my garden contained in and have control of what types of soils I'm using. I shopped at Menards and found all of this. -1 2x2 board (cut for size to support in each corner-should make 5) ~$2.50 -9 treated wooden fence pickets for ~$1 each -3 of the boards you will cut in half for the shorter sides and connect them after creating your longer sides. #HomesteadLife #GardenGoals #SustainableLiving #FarmToTable #BackyardGarden #Permaculture #GrowYourOwnFood #OffGridLiving #RaisedBedGarden #SelfSufficientLiving
