Mathios Arkangelo was an Edmontonian beloved youth from the African community of South Sudanese heritage, whose life was tragically cut short by an unnamed and unidentified officer with the Edmonton Police Service. Despite him raising his hands and surrendering, he was still shot 4 times. A 25-minute video of the shooting is avaliable on Youtube. He was left on the street for two minutes as an EPS officer pointed his gun at him. It took over 28 minutes for EMS to leave with Mathios showing no urgency whatsoever. Mathios was a son, father, spouse, brother, uncle, nephew, friend, and a cherished member from the Black community. He was a talented musician, dedicated athlete, and a devoted family man who worked tirelessly to provide for and protect his loved ones. He didn’t deserve this. #policeviolence #blacklivesmatter
Yes, IT'S FREE, and we are just five days away from We Are Black History Together: Braids of Empowerment Collaboration, a free youth event that celebrates unity, culture, and the future of our children. Hosted by Lola Styles, Danielle’s Unique Styles for Youth, Yammy Bear and Family, and Truth 2 Da Youth, this event is more than just haircuts and braids—it’s an investment in our youth’s confidence, health, and protection. Bring a child or two from your family and be part of the movement to show what Black History looks like in action, right here and now. On February 23rd at Lola's Braiding school (1700 Broadway Ave N, Suite 132) at 12 p.m., we will uplift our community, one style and one cut at a time, until 10–15 young heads are transformed. Let’s rise together, break cycles, and build a legacy that speaks life into our youth! WE HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON AND HOPE WILL BE INSTALLED IN THE LIVES OF OUR CHILDREN'S! Share! Share! Share! And Share again! #YammyBear #t2dymp2024
Feeling unloveable is like having an inner voice that says, “You’re not good enough for love.” It might come from past experiences, self-doubt, etc. When you feel unloveable, you might actually push away the love that’s right in front of you. It’s like a protective shield because you fear that if someone really sees you, flaws and all, they’ll run for the hills. I mean we’re all guilty of it every now and then especially when we get caught in cycles of shame. My challenge to you is to LET LOVE IN! Allow those around you to love you freely and choose to learn from them so that you can love yourself. You are worthy of it. If you struggle with feelings of worthiness or feeling unloveable “Moving Beyond Brokenness” 6 week cohort is right for you! You’ll get access to live group sessions, individual check ins, customized workbook, community, and so much more. If this is something that interests you slide in my 📬 and say “INTEREST”. For the most impact I’m only accepting 15 ladies for this program.
