Cutting a Huge Crystal Opal from Ethiopia! Steve Moriarty decided to facet this massive 625ct natural opal into a stepped cushion shape. Unlike the hydrophane opal from Ethiopia which is stable and wearable in jewelry, this type of crystal opal is a collector gem and can not be worn in jewelry. I say collector gem because it must he stored moist. If it is allowed to dry out for an extended period of time, the surface will begin to craze (crack). Unfortunately at this time, we dont have any techinques to stablize the crystal opal material from Ethiopia. Either way, it is an amazing and beautiful faceted gem! She does not go on walks she simply went outside to use the bathroom and started acting strange. Please understand in rescue it is important to document these things as a foster so I can communicate with her rescue and vets on her health and my concerns. Unfortunately her energy level has only decreased and we have no idea why. She’s seen two vets now who have done bloodwork and both confirmed the results came back normal. She’s collapsed multiple times today and is too weak to hold herself up for longer than a few minutes so we are now at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists hoping to get some answers. Opal is fragile, but we are hoping she is strong enough to pull through this. Our family has only had her for a short period of time but we love her deeply and don’t want her story to end here. This emergency visit will cost her rescue thousands so we are asking for everyone’s support, even $1 helps.
