How do I know if The Holy Spirit is in my Church?
Acts 2:42-46 shows us what happens after the Holy Spirit comes.
Immediately, we see a call to repentance and a promise that those who turned to Jesus will be saved after we see some signs of God's spirit.
1. Devotion to Learning:
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching. Great news! We have these teachings in our bible. Most of the New Testament is this. The Old Testament is a great reference and contextual history to the New Testament.
Application : If your Church doesn't offer bible study or provide resources or encourage study of the Bible corporately outside of being preached on Sunday. That's a red flag.
2. Fellowship and Breaking Bread: Meals in Jewish culture were such a big deal. For the Jewish and Gentile to be breaking bread together was HUGE. This was a decoration of status doesn't matter. Until TRIUMPHED here. I'm a big believer that you can't have fellowship and Breaking Bread without the Devotion to Learning the Bible. I have attended churches that prioritise fellowship over learning and (in my experience) it turns into a group of people that talk more about politics and fantasy than God, and everyone falls apart.
Application : Does your church have healthy community groups that range with people from all walks of life and different levels of status?
3. Prayer: Coming together, they PRAYED. Jesus modeled this in a large portion of His ministry. He left groups to pray, and He prayed in public, He taught prayer. The disciples prayed often. Prayer is our opportunity to talk with God here on earth and because of what Jesus accomplished in that cross, we GET to call on God and talk to him, without need for sacrifice, or another man in between. We don't need special education or accolades. We just need to ask for Jesus.
Application : If your Church only prays from the pulpit but doesn't offer Prayer nights, Prayer during service, intercessory prayer or encourage to Sprinkle it in when ever they can. It might be a red flag. We see in Acts this was a GET TO not a HAVE To.
4. Signs and Wonders : It didn't stop on the Bible pages ;)
