🍃 Need to make friction fire in windy conditions? Here's some tips and tricks from my years of experience making friction fire in rain, snow, and high winds.

👉 Here's a story... Back in the days of wilderness therapy I lived and taught half the month in the wilderness and all fires were made by friction.

➡️ One day while getting into a beautiful campsite just shy of the ridge line in the high unita mountains I was selected by the other staff to get the fire going. We had a massive storm pushing in, and while students and other staff headed into the heavy timber to set up shelters I began building the group fire.
After gathering 10 loads of wood and preparing the fire area, I began making my first ember. Just as the ember grew to maturity the wind hit me so hard almost knocking me over and sending my ember into the wind and disappeared.
After 24 embers being continually blown into oblivion I searched for a punky log. Finally I found one!
Taking a piece I carved it flat and drilled a hole that lined up with my hearth board notch. Placing my board on top I began to bust my 25th ember.
As soon as the ember grew the wind blew it away,.. but not before it ignited the punky wood below. Once that punky wood lit it grew into a large burning ember and that was what started my fire. Adaptability is key to Thrival!
