My most asked question… these countertops! They are NOT butcher block! Luckily a fraction of the cost. They are called Veneer Oak from Ikea. It’s essentially a thin layer of real wood with MDF sandwiched in between. They come pre cut, like butcher block. Ikea also sells an oil they recommend you apply once a month on it. We honestly did it when we first installed them and out of pure laziness and just being busy we never kept up with it. Testing the myth: cleaning a cup ring off our wood countertop with… mayonnaise?! 🤔 While this wouldn’t be our go-to solution, we had to give it a try for science! 💪 As woodworkers, we recommend safer methods that are gentler on the finish, but we knew we could fix any issues if needed.
