Obviously we have goals during speech therapy, but my main focus is on following the child’s lead and adjusting the way I play accordingly in order to target their goals through play. Here’s 7 Tips to start to build your child’s early labguage and communication skills. We started singing songs from the day we brought our little guy home, so it’s never too early to get started! 1. Get face to face with your child, so that they can see your face, mouth and facial expressions 2. Create opportunities for your child to take a turn in their own way - this could be through a vocalisation, word, action, pointing to a picture, sign, or whatever it is your child is able to do to communicate 3. Pause and wait to give your child an opportunity to take their turn 4. Model actions and gestures 5. Adjust your speed of singing (without sounding unnatural or robotic) to give your child enough time to process. 5. Repeat, repeat, repeat 6. Keep it fun 7.
