1. Coming from someone who was 100% inspired by Dorian Yates and Mike Mentzer growing up, I spent all my earliest years training to failure, and made great progress. 2. So this post will, as usual, be misconstrued as me saying you cannot make progress training to failure. Because the internet is stupid. 3. In fact, for years in my groups everyone knew the top set was taken to failure because hey, that’s what we do, and that’s how we progress. 4. Then around 6, 7, 8 weeks...people would start “hitting the wall”. 5. Meaning, they would see PO stall badly, or even regress at times. 6. This was even more pronounced when intensifiers were included. 7. Over the last few years I started having the shift towards NOT using failure that often when I looked at the fatigue data, and saw over and over again that sets to failure cause much more time to recover. 8. On top of that, if you’re using heavier loading, there’s really no point in getting to task failure because you have full motor unit recruitment from the first rep. 9. So then I started putting more 1-2 RIR stuff into my own training to test it out, and within a week, I had big jumps in exercises that had seemingly stalled out for weeks an weeks (or maybe months) 10. Then I put it into the groups....... 11. And they all accused me of witchcraft. Because the PO starting happening in magnitude they didn’t think was possible. And any of them can comment in this thread to testify to this. 12. So then I’d make the mistake of feeling great, and the weights would feel light, and I’d “go for it” and set rep PR’s....and then after a few workouts I’d see the stall happen again. 13. Then I would pull back to 1-2 RIR and within a week or so the PO would start back up. Like clockwork. Without fail. CONT….. #bodybuilding #gym #fitness #gymtok #gains #failure
I am excited to announce after nearly 9 years of training naturally, I have one of the best coaches in Natural Bodybuilding in the world by my side. The past 4 years I’ve been inconsistent, lazy, not accountable, nutrition out of the window. I guess you could say not myself and put other parts of my life a priority over fitness. I lost my hunger prior to 2020 with my last photo pictures. I’ve had to take responsibility and own it and take accountability. It’s a simple case of I am now at the stage now where I simply need to surround myself with the people who are better than me in every aspect of bodybuilding in which Khifie West is! The attention to detail, nothing gets missed to the gram, no shortcuts, no easy days, this is what was needed. I want to do this to be the best Father to my Daughter, for my partner, for my family and for my friends. Additionally, for me to do this I need to be the best version of me. I am at my happiest when I’m training, when I’m getting my steps in, when I’m eating whole nutritious foods, especially when I am in a routine. It gives me purpose, gives me the drive and determination I once did when I first started training in 2016-2020.
