The final chapter in the Heartstopper love story has been confirmed, with the much-anticipated season four being turned into a feature-length film. The production company behind the hit queer series, See-Saw films, confirmed the news today (22 April) on the third anniversary of season one dropping on Netflix. “Today marks 3 years since we first said hi to Nick and Charlie on our screens, and now we’re excited to announce their love story will conclude as a feature film, going into production this summer,” the company announced in a post on its Instagram page. Netflix UK further confirmed the news on its own social media channels in a post which reads: “Heartstopper will return, bigger than ever. A Heartstopper movie, our final chapter based on Alice Oseman’s upcoming volume six, is coming.” Heartstopper season three aired back in August 2024, with fans of the sweet queer drama anxious to hear whether it had been greenlit for a fourth outing. Yet news of season four failed to materialise, with the show’s cast – including Kit Connor, who plays Nick – admitting that he wasn’t sure what was happening with a fourth instalment. Fans can now rest assured that the the love story between teens Nick (Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) will come to a satisfying end. Though production on the Heartstopper film is set to commence this summer, Alice Oseman – the author behind the original graphic novels, and executive producer on the Netflix hit – is still in the creation stage of volume six of the comics. In an Instagram post, Oseman said they had written the script for the film, and were “hard at work” on bringing it to life already. “We are making a feature film to conclude the Heartstopper screen adaptation, based on Heartstopper Volume 6 and the ‘Nick and Charlie’ novella,” Oseman said. “We are getting to tell the end of the story!!! I’m deeply relieved and so excited about this new creative venture. I’ve written the script and we’re hard at work already. I know you’ll have a lot of questions, and I’ll be able to talk about it more very soon, but for now let’s CELEBRATE! Heartstopper is getting its ending!!!!!!” There is currently no release date for Heartstopper volume six, and no word on how the story will end for the young couple. It stars has continuously shared their hope that it will be a happy ending for Nick and Charlie, though season three did delve into darker, more hard-hitting topics, including sex, anxiety and eating disorders. Heartstopper is streaming now on Netflix. #heartstopper #heartstoppervolume6 #heartstoppermovie #nickandcharlie #aliceoseman #lgbtqia
