Breeding Betta Fish at Home – Step-by-Step Guide to Baby Fish Success!
In this detailed guide, I'll walk you through my 30-day journey of successfully breeding betta fish, resulting in adorable baby fish! Whether you're a seasoned aquarist or just getting started, this process is surprisingly simple and can easily be done at home. Let's dive into the exciting world of betta fish breeding.
On day one, I placed the male and female betta fish in the same tank, but with the female in a separate container to make sure they were attracted to each other. After a few hours, the male fish started blowing bubbles on the water's surface, a clear sign that he was ready to breed. Once I released the female, the male immediately embraced her, and soon after, fish eggs began to fall into the tank. At this point, the breeding process was halfway successful!
The male betta fish then started picking up the eggs from the bottom of the tank with his mouth, carefully placing them into the bubbles he had created earlier. Don't worry, he doesn't eat them! The male takes full responsibility for caring for the eggs, ensuring they're safe in the bubble nest.
Around day four, I noticed the first baby fish emerging from the bubbles. By day six, there were so many tiny baby fish that the tank was full of them! The male fish worked tirelessly, picking up baby fish that had fallen to the bottom and placing them near the water's surface.
By day eight, the baby fish had learned to swim on their own, and it was time to let the fish dad rest. The first meal for the baby bettas is freshly hatched brine shrimp. After two months, you can start to tell the males from the females, and by four months, they will be as beautiful as their parents!
This time, I successfully bred snowflake bettas, and I plan to try breeding white wedding and candy bettas next. Stay tuned for more updates and join me in this rewarding journey!

Do Not Do This With A Betta Fish
Betta fish, with their flowing fins and brilliant colors, are truly captivating.
But did you know they thrive in calm, still waters?
Many people think a bigger filter means a healthier fish, but too much water movement can stress your betta.
This stress can lead to shredded fins and an unhappy pet.
Choosing a gentle, low-flow filter is the way to go.
When it comes to bettas, peace and tranquility make all the difference. Keep following Dr. Tim's Aquatic for more tips on keeping your fish happy and healthy.
