HTTD: How’s Alfred Doing? UPDATE 2 - Cyclone Alfred: While Garance seems to dominate in the Southwest Indian Ocean, Alfred is currently the more notable storm in the Australian Region, now a high-end Category 2 hurricane equivalent cyclone. Alfred currently has maximum sustained winds of up to 110mph as well as an estimated central air pressure of 962mb, moving south at a speed of around 6mph, now nearing major cyclone status although is soon to run out of time as it heads towards cooler sea surface temperatures. Right out, Alfred is still continued to confuse major meteorological agencies with its future 48+ hour track forecasts, with some predicting a landfall near the borders of Queensland and New South Wales, which does make some of these models unreliable for track forecasts at this specific range. Meanwhile, the majority of Eastern Australia are now starting to prepare and are in high alert for a landfall in the region, whether Alfred weakens back to tropical cyclone status or maintains its current status, although significantly weaker. Alfred is still at this time, to distant from land and the projected time to make a high-confidence prediction for a potential landfall, however, if it does occur will be close to borders of those states.
