Season 3, Episode 3: Carrotmob I founded a global social movement called Carrotmob. In a Carrotmob campaign, people spend money at a business, and in exchange, the business agrees to do what the people want. The new and improved version of this that we will build will allow anyone to pledge guaranteed sales to a business (via pre-authorization of gift card purchases, for example), but only if the business agrees to specific demands. This creates a new form of financial data that helps predict future sales. We will give every business access to a list of all of our demands for things we want them to do differently in order to benefit the world. For every demand, they will see a list of how many guaranteed new customers they will get if they agree to the demand, as well as the exact dollar amount of incremental revenue they will get if they do it. In the past, a business may have been aware of 100 actions they could take that would benefit society, but they wouldn’t do any of them because they had no financial data to indicate that doing this would make more money. People signing a petition or asking for these actions on social media doesn’t work, because these methods don’t provide any financial data. But the next version of Carrotmob will give businesses the data they need in order to see that taking some of these actions will cause them to make more money than they otherwise would, leading them to agree to those demands. We’re already spending the money.
