If you like seeing the action in your garden then worms are not going to be your friend, because they hate sunlight and will flee to the depths. I just recently churned up my vermicomposting column (after realizing I had a huge air gap) and I guess one of these red wigglers decided to take a snack near the top. By heading back into the soil after eating he is going to deposit castings throughout the soil, and therefore provide valuable nutrients for all the plants and seedlings growing throughout.
