I just picked up this hyperlite pack because I've been backpacking exclusively with a frameless one for a couple years and I wanted something slightly burlier. So far it seems sick. I gathered up all the stuff I'm missing (rain shell, camp sandals, water bottles, first aid, food sack) and it weighs 1.7lbs total. So my official base weight is like 11.7lbs. In general, the lighter your base weight the happier the camper. *Ultralight Backpacking* this means that your base weight under 10 lbs. This is very minimal and can be expensive to achieve. *Lightweight Backpacking* means your base weight is under 20 lbs. This is a more realistic goal especially for newer backpackers. I package up the the other ingredients separately in their own individual bags.
