Ask yourself if you’d pass this test. The shopping cart theory is a social concept rather than a formalized test but it’s used to judge a person’s capacity to self-govern, to do the right thing, to do what’s needed, in situations when no one is looking. Do you return the shopping cart back to where it belongs or do you just leave it where it is after you’ve loaded your car? That’s it, that’s the test. Now ask yourself: Do you have the capacity to do the right thing, even when no one’s looking? Said differently, always carry yourself, as if someone else is watching. While seemingly small this practice can be a monumental growth opportunity. It essentially is saying, don’t cheat, don’t take short cuts, do what’s needed, always. If you cheat even the smallest of opportunities to do the right thing it can be an indication of how you are in other areas. The shopping cart theory tests your ability to self govern and ultimately do the right thing. Return that shopping cart and expand to bigger opportunities to show up when no one’s looking. Watch how this not just improves your own sense of self but how others begin to view you differently because you’ve proved time and time again that even when no one’s looking, you’re doing what needs to be done. #shoppingcarttheory #discipline #bebetter #selfreliance #self-improvement #growth #mindset #coaching #foryoupage #foryou #fyp
