FHS is very manageable and his quality of life is not worse because of it. Gabapentin has allowed him to be himself and not go after his tail. He is a happy, playful kitty who enjoys everything life has to offer. We are just spreading awareness about FHS in hopes it would help someone else. Sharing this so others are more aware of this poorly-understood syndrome called feline hyperesthesia. I’ve noticed some of these symptoms for a couple of months and thought that Maverick was just a “weird orange cat”. I was dismissed at the vet when I raised concern over his ears twitching & his erratic zoomies around the house, but when they said his ears look perfectly healthy (no ear mites, ear infection, etc) alarm bells were going off for me. I did my research and pushed hard at the vet for a diagnosis after I had learned about FHS & felt his symptoms were textbook, & we are now on the road to a treatment plan that alleviates his symptoms so he can live his most comfortable life. If your cat has this kind of behavior, you may want to record it & see a vet before writing it off as a silly cat mannerism! This is all still very new & scary & I have a lot to learn but I’m happy to answer questions!
