Meet the breed: Burmese 🐈 Have you ever seen a Burmese cat? The modern Burmese descend from a black female brought to US from Burma in 1930 and the type and lines of Burmese cats differ between different parts of the world. 🌏 The typical genetic of the Burmese comes from the pointed trait and because of this, they show very little contrast between the color of the points and the body color, especially in some lighter varieties. The Burmese has a compact body and has a broad chest. They are well muscled and heavier than one would expect. Burmese cats have a super glossy, silky and short coat and the head is broad with a visible nose break. The eye shape gives them an intense look as they have the upper eyelid straight and the lower eyelid round. 👁️ The Burmese are very affectionate cats and make great companions. They have friendly personality and are very loyal to their caregivers. They are playful and active and when they are not happy with something, their voice will be heard clear and loud. Some lines may be susceptible to diabetes mellitus and inherited hypokalemic polymyopathy which causes muscle weakness due to low levels of blood potassium. Few Burmese have developed an unusual condition called feline orofacial pain syndrome and in some lines, particularly USA there has been a problem with a head and brain deformities in kittens which is called Burmese head defect and there is a genetic test for this. Burmese also suffer from gangliosidosis which is an inherited inborn error of lipid metabolism and should be genetically tested for this. 🐱 ___________ #catvet #felineveterinarian #felinemedicine #cathealth #catwellness #catcare #veterinarymedicine #animalcare #petcare #catsofinstagram #ilovecats #catvaccinations #catdentalcare #catsurgery #catnutrition #catbehavior #catgrooming #catboarding #catadoption #catrescue #burmese #catbreeds #meetthebreed
