Botanical printing for the soul 💛🌼🌿 I was really missing my mom the other morning and decided to print something for her. They say grief is all the love that has nowhere to go so I poured that love into this little piece of fabric. ✨ Bamboo silk that was pretreated with iron and alum mineral salts — a mordanting recipe shared exclusively in ✨Printing with Flowers & Leaves ✨ If you’ve printed with flowers, you know how difficult it can be to keep the dyes from bleeding. This particular natural prefixative method makes it easy to create clear prints with flowers while, simultaneously, interacting with tannins to create strong leaf prints. 🌿✨ It’s easily adjustable - allowing the dyer to customize the printing results to be lighter, darker, more colorful, etc. 💫 ::Specifics:: Fabric - Bamboo silk Mordant - alum + iron Natural Dye - madder root Printing flowers - coreopsis, cosmos, scabiosa Printing leaves - vitex, citronella, maple, & sumac Printed with the mirror technique 🪞✨ The plants are arranged on one side of the fabric. When the other side of the fabric is folded over, the plants are sandwiched between the front and back - allowing them to print on both sides. The fabric and plants are then rolled onto a copper pipe and steamed over water for 20 minutes. 🌈 If you’d like to give eco printing a try, I have a free tutorial that will get you started linked in my bio. ⚡️💛 If you’d like to learn the entire process with video lessons, printable guides, & one-on-one support, join me online in ✨Printing with Flowers & Leaves✨ #naturaldye #cottagecore #ecoprinting #flowerprinting #botanicaldye #floralart

Carnations always seem to be around in the shops and tend to be a little overlooked, I feel, printing this one on black brought out some beautiful detail I thought, I am always so delighted with the results I get from this process though... The carnation flower, scientifically known as Dianthus caryophyllus, has a rich history intertwined with various cultures and symbolisms. In floriography, or the language of flowers, carnations often convey sentiments of love, fascination, and distinction. In Greek mythology, it's believed that carnations originated from the tears of the goddess Diana as she wept for her beloved Adonis. In folklore, carnations were associated with protection, often used in rituals to ward off evil spirits and protect against illnesses. Traditionally, they've been used in bouquets, corsages, and even culinary creations due to their subtly spicy fragrance. Medicinally, carnations have been used in herbal remedies for their antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. They're also believed to have a calming effect when brewed into tea. If you would like to try this at home, there is a list of materials on the website links in profile https://www.impressionsofnature.co.uk . . . . . . . #printmakingwithplants #monoprinting #monoprint #botanicalmonoprint #botanicalprint #flowerprint #monotype #printmaking #printmaker #contemporaryprintmaking #printmakingtoday #contemporarycraft #printmakingprocess #impressionsofnature #NatureJournal #CarnationFlower #FlowerLanguage #MythologyOfFlowers #FolkloreFlowers #TraditionalUses #MedicinalPlants #FlowerSymbolism #BotanicalHistory #FlowerMagic #FlowerFolklore.

These were in the reduced section at the supermarket, they were very past their best but I wanted to celebrate them anyway. I was very pleased with the level of detail but I think I say that everyday! Gladioli (gladiolus) belong to the iris family (Iridaceae) and are native to South Africa. The name "gladiolus" is derived from the Latin word "gladius," which means sword and so they carry a rich and surprisingly broad symbolic significance. In Roman times when gladiators engaged in brutal combat they became a symbol of their heroic spirit. They therefore symbolise heroism, strength of character, victory and pride and were associated with the god Mars (Ares in Greek mythology). They often pop up in paintings they were one of Vincent Van Goghs favourite flowers, he liked to use them to create triangular-structured compositions as in Vase with Gladioli and Carnation or an inverted triangle Vase with Gladioli and China Asters. Claude Monet painted Gladiolas in a Vase c.1876 by but he also painted them in a garden setting, also Gladioli in a Vase were painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir 1874 - 1875 to name just a few. In floriography they can mean moral integrity, faithfulness, and remembrance. They are often chosen to convey condolences and sympathy, making them a respectful choice for funeral arrangements. However they are also the birth flower for the month of August and the traditional flower for celebrating the 40th wedding anniversary, signifying enduring love and commitment. . . . . . .. #gladioli #gladiolus #printmakingwithplants #monoprinting #monoprint #botanicalmonoprint #botanicalprint #gladioliprint #contemporarycraft #printmakingprocess #printmarker #PrintmakingTechniques
🌿💚🍃Sometimes I am completely amazed by the gorgeousness of the monoprints I make… and this one was a complete surprise… I thought it would be a real challenge but it was easy to print and the detail is incredible. It’s a great one to add to my print nature journal. What do you think? 🌸 I have a patch of marsh woundwort in the field (Stachys palustris), also commonly known as hedgenettle. Whilst it does not have widely recognised symbolic meaning, it could represent the concept of adaptability or strength in challenging environments due to its ability to thrive in marshy conditions. 🌸The Stachys genus were sometimes believed to have medicinal properties and were used in traditional herbal remedies. For example, Stachys officinalis (betony) was regarded as a powerful herb and in some European traditions, it was believed that carrying a sprig of Marsh Woundwort could protect against evil spirits and witches. It was also thought to bring good luck and ensure a bountiful harvest if planted near the entrance of a home or field. It has also been known to repel snakes and so planting it around the house may deter them, probably due to its fairly pungent scent. This will be a lovely addition to my print nature journal which will have to be bound in seasons I think. 💚If you would like to have a go at this wonderful process, this is a great activity for all ages there are some useful links in our profile which might be helpful including links to materials and a little step by step 😊 . . . . . #hedgenettle #floriography #marshwoundwort #woundwort #rainydayactivity #printmaking #monoprinting #natureprint #botanicalprint #everydaygratitude #natureatitsbest #lovenature #lovewildflowers #wildflowerhour #naturejournal #contemporarycraft #printmakingtoday #natureprintmaking

#gelprintjanuary #gelprintjanuary2024 Day 13: Botanicals As it is winter here in the UK, larger leaves that are my favourite to use in gel printing are hard to come by! I had to really think about what to use for this print, so I decided to sacrifice a few leaves from my lemon tree that I have grown from seed. This is one of the most satisfying prints that you can make for sure, after a little practice, I am sure that you can do it too 💕 You can also tape down one side of your paper to create a hinge which will help you line up your prints too! I will demonstrate that in another video soon. Please note that this is a 4 minute video that has been sped up and edited to a few seconds! Take your time, be patient with yourself and keep trying 🔥 Supplies: Gelli Arts 8x10 Gel Printing Plate, Acrylic Paints, Speedball Soft Brayer, 160gsm smooth white cardstock, lemon tree leaves Want to take part and win some prizes? Use the hashtags #gelprintjanuary #gelprintjanuary2024 and be sure to tag me @taniaahmed so I can see your posts! I won't be able to see your posts if your account is private 💕 The very awesome folks at Gelli Arts are donating a prize and I will be doing giveaways as well 🔥 To celebrate, I have created a workbook that includes a video tutorial which will answer aaaallll your questions about getting started with gel printing. Download here: http://bit.ly/GelPrintJanuary The workbook has 50 gel print texture ideas and 50 project ideas too! I know you love lists 😉 You can print out the prompts to stick on your prints and I will be creating a finished journal with all the prints at the end of the challenge. You don't have to take part everyday, cheating is highly encouraged and you can use whatever mediums and colours you have in your stash or even combine prompts! 🥳 My advice is to keep it simple and easy! . . . #gelliarts #gelprinting #gelplate #monoprinting #printmakersoftiktok #printmakingprocess #printingwithnature #leafprint #botanicalprint #printingwithleaves
Artist @terrieakwong uses real flowers to print floral patterns on leather. 🌼 She describes her technique as a kind of botanical printing via heating with natural dyes and the plants' own pigments. 🌱🪴 #fyp #foryou #plants #art #artist

Beautiful poignant Forget-me-nots (genus Myosotis) these small, delicate flowers always make me smile. They are quite tricky to print with as the flowers tend to fall as soon as they are touched with the roller. Only last year I discovered an amazing fact about them, in that the yellow ring in the centre fades to white when pollinated, signalling that there is no more nectar to pollinators… They are associated with remembrance and true love and often given as gifts to loved ones, symbolising enduring affection and the promise of unforgettable memories. The name "forget-me-not" has various origin stories in folklore. One popular legend tells of a medieval German knight who, while walking along a riverbank with his lady, saw a beautiful blue flower growing on the water's edge. As he bent to pick it for her, his heavy armor caused him to lose his balance and fall into the river. As he was swept away, he threw the flower to his love, calling out "Forget-me-not!" This story has contributed to the flower's association with faithfulness and enduring love. . . . . . . . . . #learneveryday #rememberance #forgetmenot #plantFolklore #Monoprinting #NatureInspiredArt #monoprint #printmakingtoday #natureprint #contemporarycraft #botanicalprint #naturejournal #ukprintmakers #floriography #contemporarybotanicalart #printingwithflowers #botanicalmonoprint #ImpressionsOfNature #forgetmenotprint
