I'm really struggling with ending a 15-year friendship. It was tough dealing with the subtle jabs that were disguised as jokes, which were actually insults. Whenever I tried to speak up about something I didn't agree with, it always turned into a fight, with me ending up as the one to blame. It made me sick to hear the things this person would say. I once called her my best friend, but I couldn't stomach the hurtful things she did to people she claimed to care about. I couldn't stay her secret keeper anymore. I was always going above and beyond for her, yet any favors she did for me came with a price. I’m okay with being the villain in her story if that’s what makes her feel better, but I can't keep living my life that way. I tried explaining why I couldn’t be friends anymore, but once again, she made it about herself, casting me as the bad guy. I’d rather be without friends and work on myself than stay in a toxic friendship. Ending this relationship breaks my heart. But after all these years, she still refuses to change, always playing the victim and never taking responsibility. I just can’t take it anymore.
