A ruptured colon is a real risk in people hospitalized with acute severe colitis. The outcome here was not good. While we all tried to tell this patient, that not doing surgery was wrong, we can’t tie people up and drag them to the OR without consent. This happened because of a delay in getting him to agree to surgery. Happy Monday! For all of you treating witch hazel like that found in Tucks and Prep H wipes, this stuff is OTC and ok for an occasional swollen external hemorrhoid. But chronic use can lead to extreme drying. Witch hazel is an astringent. It sucks water out of swollen tissue. Putting on your bum daily like it’s Windex and You’re Greek is not recommended.
