This is the most scenic train ride we’ve experienced!
📍Royal Gorge Train, Canon City, Colorado
🚂 The train ride starts in the Santa Fe depot in Canon City and brings you up through the gorge and back. There is coach seating, deluxe, dome and first class.
🍷 There is food and alcohol available for purchase but it is not included in the tickets. There is a bar car and kitchen car.
💰 Tickets for coach were $89 for an adult, $84 for kids. Yes, this was steep, but to us it was worth it. We did not end up ordering food.
We opted for coach and I am glad we did because the price was more for the dome car and the windows were not very clean and we actually stayed outside on the open air car the entire time!
Are you adding this train ride to your bucket list?

Follow @whatrvdoing for more travel inspo Yes, it was totally worth it! 📍El Choyin Hot Spring River - La Fortuna, Costa Rica It’s FREE! But you want to get here early, because there can easily be dozens to 100+ people soaking in this at one time throughout the day. Parking - technically parking is free, but there will be men who will say you need to pay a fee for them to “watch your car” and otherwise, there could potentially be break-ins. We did give a guy $5 and had no issues. You can say no, but just be cautious. This is an absolute must when you are traveling to La Fortuna, Costa Rica. I could’ve soaked in this every morning.

·1d ago This might be the most underrated slot canyon in Arizona! 📍Deer Canyon, Antelope Valley, Page, AZ 🥾 It is the longest H-framed slot canyon in the area. You will take 135 steps down from the top of the canyon and make your way through. There are several ladders to climb in order to eventually make your way back up and out of the canyon. 💰$120 per person and it’s about a 2-3 hour tour. The nice thing about this tour vs. upper/lower antelope is you are not packed in with a ton of people. We had the entire canyon to ourselves! 😱DO NOT DO THIS if you have an extreme fear of heights or claustrophobia. The stairs down initially are high and steep. The ladders also go up vertically and somewhat high. The canyon gets very tight at times and you may only see glimmers of light. 👉🏼 Tour provided by @antelopevalleytours Are you adding Deer Canyon to your bucket list?

This is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains and it’s amazing😍. 📍Kuwohi (formerly Clingmans Dome) When we first headed that direction, it was extremely overcast. We were kind of regretting going because we knew there would be such limited visibility with a less than exciting sunset. We were so excited when the sun starting peaking through and the colors were popping. Once the sun went down, the colors were even more vibrant! ⛰️Kuwohi is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains at 6643 feet. ⛰️It’s a half mile uphill walk to the summit. ⛰️On a clear day, views could be visible over 100 miles! ⛰️Bring a sweater because it can be 10-20 degrees cooler at the dome! Have you visited Kuwohi? . . . #clingmansdome #kuwohi #greatsmokymountains #tenneseee #travel #fulltimetravel #smokymountains #mountains

·2d ago I think this is one of the most underrated hikes in Sedona, AZ. 📍Doe Mountain Trail 🥾Short trail at only 1.5 miles out and back with a 511 ft elevation gain. It is uphill the entire time and I would consider this moderately challenging because of some areas you need to climb. 💰You can pay $5 to park or use your National Parks Pass. 🌅 We did the sunset hike which was beautiful and not very busy at all during the week. You will have to come back down in the dark, so bring a headlamp or flashlight. ‼️The trail isn’t well defined in some areas, but some people did draw a few arrows on rocks to point you in the right direction. So, just be mindful of where you are going!

Steal our itinerary for an epic road trip in the USA👇🏼 I would say the best time for this road trip is in the fall - it’s less busy or at least for us it was! 📍Colorado Springs, CO - This area has a lot going for outdoor activities and small city life. We loved the Garden of the Gods, Paint Mines and Mount Cutler. 📍Canon City, CO - We stopped here for the most epic train ride! It was absolutely incredible going through the Royal Gorge. 📍Great Sand Dunes National Park - This felt like a must stop because who doesn’t want to sand board or sand sled? We felt like we were in another country here. Just wish we got to go back, beware of windy days and sand blowing! 📍Page, AZ - We LOVED Page, AZ and plan to go back. Some of our favorites included Deer Canyon, Navajo Bridge, Waterhole Canyon, Wire Pass, Horseshoe bend and flying with @antelopeair. 📍Grand Canyon, AZ - We had to go to the Grand Canyon because we’d never been. It was indeed, grand! We did a little of the Bright Angel trail but hiking rim to rim is on our bucket list! 📍Sedona, AZ - We fell in love quickly here. We could easily go back and spend another month. Some of our favorites were Subway Cave, Chicken Point, Cathedral Rock and an epic train ride with @verdecanyonrail. #usaroadtrip #usatravel #roadrip #colorado #arizona

·5d ago Follow @whatrvdoing for more travel content This National Park is so underrated and looks like you’re on another planet! 📍Badlands National Park in South Dakota 🪨 You’ll find layered rock formations, steep canyons and towering spires. 🦬 You may find bison, longhorn sheep and prairie dogs living here. 🥾 There are tons of hikes to do, we opted for notch trail which was about 1.7 miles round trip and moderate. There was a ladder you had to climb and some challenging areas. 🚙 If you don’t want to hike, there are tons of scenic lookouts on Badlands Loop Road 💰 If you don’t have a national park pass, it’s $15 per person or $30 per vehicle. ·1w ago Follow @whatrvdoing for more travel content🫶🏼 You need to visit this lake at least once in your life!🤯 📍This is Crystal Lake in Michigan located in Benzie County. It’s one of the cleanest lakes in Michigan and is an oligotrophic lake - hence why it’s so clear. There are plenty of shallow places to swim long the shore line, but the lake gets 165 feet deep further out😳 You can ride bikes around the lake as well or visit the adorable towns nestled on it like Beulah. We did see RV spots available right on the lake, so keep that in mind, too! Is Crystal Lake on your list?

·1-18Steal our Sedona, AZ itinerary 🥾👇🏼 📍Subway Cave via Boynton Canyon Trail - 6 miles roundtrip. The hike is overall easy, but slightly challenging at the end to get into the cave. 🏁Rent an ATV with @sedonaatv and tour around. This is an incredible way to experience Sedona! 🫡 Soldier Pass Trail - 5 miles roundtrip from the closest lot. Hike is more strenuous at the end, and then a small climb into the cave. 🥾Chicken Point via Broken Arrow Trail - 4.6 mile roundtrip hike. You should absolutely climb up Chicken Point at the end! 🚂 Ride the scenic train with @verdecanyonrail . This is a 4 hour train ride and you experience you beautiful Verde Valley! ⛪️Visit Chapel of the Holy Cross. You can drive here and park to walk up, if you need help there are golf carts. This is free to enter. 🪨Hike Cathedral Rock. This trail is only 1.2 miles roundtrip but is very challenging. You are mostly climbing up and scrambling.
🌄 Hike Doe Mountain - Only 1.5 miles up, but there are some challenging along the way. Great place to experience sunset! #sedona #visitsedona #explorearizona #sedonaitinerary

This Colorado park was out of this world and definitely felt like one or Colorado’s best kept secrets! 📍Paint Mines Interpretative Park, Calhan, CO 🚙 It’s about a 45 minute drive from Colorado Springs 💰 This is a FREE park! The paint mines have evidence of human life as far back as 9,000 years ago. The park features fantastic geological formations including spires and hoodoos that form through erosive action that creates incised gullies and exposed layers of selenite clay and jasper. The park includes a restroom facility, four miles of trails, interpretive signage, and many natural wonders.
