Let’s unpack a couple of endorsements that really left some folks scratching their heads.

Recently, former 2023 mayoral candidate Ja’Mal Green and retired Rep. Bobby Rush endorsed FOP-backed Paul Vallas.

This isn't the first time Rush and Green have backed a cop. In our new video commentary, Raych unpacks what makes this endorsement different.

On Wednesday, Mayor Brandon Johnson and the City of #Chicago reopened the previously closed Roseland Mental Health Clinic. The Department of Public Health-operated clinic, now renamed the Roseland Health Hub, will offer no-cost #mentalhealth services to Chicago residents regardless of insurance or immigration status. The Roseland mental health clinic is one of 14 that have closed since 1989. The announcement also included expanding the city's CARE program, which sends behavioral health clinicians to 9-1-1 calls identified by dispatchers as having a mental health component.

At today’s announcement of "The Rose Garden" in Englewood at Growing Home, an urban farm, Mayor Brandon Johnson declared Jan. 4, 2025 as “Derrick Rose Day.” All week, the Englewood native has been receiving his roses as the #ChicagoBulls prepare to celebrate Rose’s retirement at the United Center during a Jan. 4 game against the New York #Knicks. Rose is an undeniable #Chicago Bulls legend, and has spent the week in Chicago giving back to the community and fans who’ve been cheering him on since his high school basketball star days at Simeon Career Academy. 🌹 🌹 🌹 🎥 : Rome J. for The TRiiBE

On Monday, the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression and its allies rallied outside the George Dunne Cook County building to demand that Cook County State's Attorney Eileen Burke free police torture survivors and the wrongfully convicted. Eileen Burke was elected to lead the Cook County State's Attorney's Office in November. Foxx decided not to run for re-election in 2023. During Foxx's tenure nearly 250 wrongful convictions were overturned. As a result of her efforts, Illinois led the nation in exonerations from 2018 to 2021. In May, the United Nations' Special Rappateor on Torture released a twenty-six page report, which urged then-State's Attorney and others to take swift action to address the "the systemic corruption and use of torture or other cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment by law enforcement officials in the Chicago area, resulting in wrongful convictions and unjust incarceration of affected individuals, who are disproportionally of African and Latino/Hispanic descent."

The Art of Blackness is “exhibiting Black art and Black culture in the way that you see fit,” says Inga Mutimura, one of the curators of the new exhibition at Block 37. In its 11th year, the exhibition is introducing Chicagoans to 20 Black visual artists. “All of these pieces in some way, shape or form, I feel, exhibit a form of Black culture. This is something that people should know about in Chicago.” You can catch the Art of Blackness at the Loft Space inside of Block 37 on Level 2 near the restrooms. Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The exhibition is curated by Lashun Tines and Justin Dwaun Redding with the assistance of Inga Mutimura.

Transgender Day of Remembrance is annually on Nov. 20, and memorializes those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia. On Wednesday, Chicago Therapy Collective held a lantern-lighting ceremony to honor those in the community who have been lost this year. Along with the lantern ceremony, CTC unveiled the design of their forthcoming memorial mural for Elise Malary, a Chicago trans rights activist who died in March 2022. Malary, who was 31 at the time of her passing, had worked with Chicago Therapy Collective and in the Civil Rights Bureau of Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office. The mural will be finished in the spring of 2025 at 5237 N Clark St. The city is also dedicating a public plaza to Malary on Catalpa Avenue from Clark Street to Ashland Avenue. #Chicago #transdayofremembrance #elisemalary
