Growing my hair out gray has been one of the scariest and most rewarding experiences of my life. š
But the actual decision process was not something I took lightly. Iām a people pleaser and I didnāt want to do āthe wrong thing.ā Negative comments I received weighed heavily on me.ā
ā
Now that Iām on the other side, I can say with 100% certainty, listen to YOUR gut (no one elseās gut!).
And if your gut isnāt saying anything rn, give it time. You will know when you are ready.
And when you do jump in (or if youāre here because youāre diving in already), youāll want these tips for what NOT to do when you go gray.
Of course you can do whatever you want but these are some tips that will help streamline your experience!
1. Donāt use blue shampoo
2. Donāt start until you are ready
3. Donāt go it alone
4. Donāt limit your options
5. Donāt listen to naysayers

Ā·2-21āI want to spend $75 on my hand cream.ā - Said no one ever. Weāre all just out here trying to make better choices for us and our families without breaking the bank. So when I found EO products at Sprouts - the first thing I had to do was tell yāall! #ad Sprouts prioritizes organic, fresh and sustainable products so they are a go-to for staples. Like, I couldnāt find organic brussels sprouts at WF of TJs last week but I found them at Sprouts! AYE! Also, EO has a range of bodycare products (that meet TNK standards) that are super affordable. Like their hand cream that comes in 4 scents (including unscented) for less than $10! But it doesnāt stop there, they also have hand soap, hand sanitizer, shower gel, bubble bath and more. I canāt recommend a stop at Sprouts for some EO products enough! Check out the new @EO Products at your local @Sprouts Farmers Market!

Ā·2024-8-8I was that person who literally said, "I will live my healthiest and best life but I will never stop coloring my hair." I guess there's a reason for the saying "Never say never." lol #itme Sharing because I'm not your stereotypical, Teva-wearing, granola-making, tree-hugging, centered and spiritual, gray-hair-wearing type of gal. (Although if we are being honest, I do make my own granola and I have hugged a tree before but gad-dammit you will never see me wearing Tevas lol). In other words, I am just a regular person who decided to stop dying her hair. Going gray was not "easy" for me. This was a decision that felt very much against the grain. But here's where it gets interesting. Before I skipped that first hair color appointment, I thought this was just going to be me, growing out my hair gray, period. But what it turned into was so much more than that. I struggled with feeling judged, staying true to myself, re-writing my story, body shaming, vulnerability, self-confidence and so much more...and all in the name of bumping up against hundreds of years of cultural conditioning that's convinced us that... āWomen who have gray hair have no value. āWomen with gray hair are ugly. āWomen with gray hair are not hireable. āWomen with gray hair are not sexy. āWomen with gray hair don't matter. And on and on and on. But I'm here to tell you a different story and to support you through this process so you CAN go gray and actually feel good about it. š£Introducing Going Gray on Your Terms! A course and community that will reframe what going gray is actually about plus give you practical and tactical ways to grow your gray hair out and how to take care of it. š¤©Yes, this BRAND NEW, LIFE-CHANGING COURSE will actually teach you how to go gray AND feel good about it. Ā·2024-5-16Want to start growing in your gray hair but donāt want that stark grow out line? If you have a crap ton of money, you can just hit the salon one time and have them dye your hair so it looks like your natural gray hair. The problem with that (besides $$$$) is itās really hard to do and takes a very skilled hairdresser. Itās also A LOT of upkeep. So for all the people who donāt have a mill to spend on their gray hair grow out, here are 7 alternative ways to go gray besides just sitting and waiting it out! 1ļøā£ Gray blending: There is no universal definition of this concept but generally speaking this is adding highlights and lowlights to your naturally existing gray hair. 2ļøā£ Dye strip method: This is where you color a section of your hair along a side part and wear your hair parted that way until the rest of your hair grows out. When this happens, you can then part your hair the other way essentially going gray in one flip! 3ļøā£ Color blocking: This is playing with color in fun ways. Maybe itās bleaching out your bangs or adding a few dark strips around your face. There are no rules here! 4ļøā£ Cut a pixie: Probably the easiest and fastest way to go gray is to cut your hair super short. One chop and you are done! 5ļøā£ Extensions: This is a fun way to layer in color. I tried this when I was fully gray and wished I had tried it sooner! 6ļøā£ Balayage: This is where you dye the bottom bits of your hair gray so it looks like your hair is fading from its dyed color to a gray color. This not only adds visual interest but it draws attention to the bottom of your hair instead of the top. 7ļøā£ Toners: You can also use temporary toners to help even out color as your hair grows out. Then when you are done with your grow out, you stop using the toner and it washes away revealing your new look. Curious about what these look like? Ā·2024-3-29There is an endless number of products you can use to wash your face but the bottom line is; oils are the best. #facts Throughout my 30+ years of face washing, Iāve run through the entire gamut of washing agents like: šdrug store body bars šastringent cleansing pads šcold creams šfacial bars šfoaming cleansers šbig-name department store cleansers šcleansers I bought from a rando in someone's livingroom in 1992. But what I've learned from all this is, without a doubt, nothing is better than oils. Oils won't strip your skin or leave it feeling tight or dry or itchy or any of the above. YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Oils are so nourishing and moisturizing and get this, they are killer at taking off dirt, grime, makeup and SPF. I seriously won't use anything else. Do you cleanse with oils? #oilcleansing #doublecleansing #skincare #grayhair

Ā·2024-3-27See a pattern? š Deciding to not color your hair anymore often comes with a sense of lossā¦ And that is valid. I know it because I felt it too. Ā·2024-3-26I did a thing š After 6 years of abstaining from coloring my hair, I colored it todayā¦CLEAR! This is called a gloss or a glaze or a demi-permanent hair color. Why would I dye my hair clear? I miss that feeling after you get your hair colored and your hair is super shiny - you know what I mean? Turns out that feeling is not a mirage. Hair dye actually smooths the hair cuticle which adds a ton of shine. Blog post to come with all the details but in the meantime lmk what your questions are so I can be sure to answer them! #grayhair #beforeandafter #cutehairstyle #springmood

Ā·2024-3-21It's natural to feel insecure when you first decide to stop coloring your hair. I get it! I've been there! You venture outside and all you can think is: āIs anyone looking at me? āDid he see my roots? āDid she just look at my gray hair? āOmg, everyone is looking at me rn. āWhat are they thinking. āļøThey think I look old. āļøThey think I look ugly. āļøOmg, whew! I'm back in my car. It's normal to think and feel this way and it's okay if you are not feeling 100% confident out and about. (That will come later!). In the meantime there are some fun things you can do during this stage to help ease the transition like: šWearing your hair in braids šUsing a headband šOr wrapping your hair in a pretty scarf šYou can also try cute beach hats, winter hats šOr baseball hats depending on the season šTemporary root spray can also be an option šEven something more extreme like getting extensions can be fun to play with too šOr even giving The Dye Strip Method a try (see a few posts back!) Ā·2024-3-19It felt like it took FOREVER (!) to grow my hair out gray but now that it's been six years sinceāit feels like a blip on the radar. I decided to stop dying my hair when I was 39. The hardest part was FOR SURE the very beginning when I would second guess myself almost every day. But sometime around 9 months, I started to feel differently and I even found myself getting excited. A lot of people want to know how long it takes to grow out gray hair. The answer to this will of course depend on your type of hair. If you have curly hair, it will take longer. If you have long hair and you want to keep it long, it will take longer. For me it took 2 years to grow out a cute gray bob. All of this to say, if you are in the thick of it and feeling uncomfortable rn, that feeling won't last. You got this! #grayhair #proage #nobotox #nofiller #longhair #beforeandafter
