The Dutch Church in the City of London, originally given to the London Dutch community by Edward VI, boy king son of Henry VIlI, was allegedly left with a tiny imperfection when rebuilt after WW2 destruction - to avoid paying more money. By the way, the music is practise for a recital taking place tomorrow night. ##dutchchurch ##cityoflondon ##hiddenlondon ##secretlondon ##explorelondon ##placestovisitinlondon ##londontiktok ##tax ##thelondonspy ##davidharry ##taxefficiency

You can find sections of Roman London still standing in public free to visit in several places, here is one of my favourites. On this site stands a surviving piece of London's city wall. The landward wall was constructed between AD190-220 and ran a distance of 3km (2miles). It was one of the most extensive works undertaken in Londinium The Roman city wall was 2.7m (9ft) thick at the base and stood over 6m (20ft) in height. This large, defensive boundary had an important influence on the City's devclopment. It continued to be of importance through the post-Roman and Medieval periods when it was strengthened and extended in height. This section of the wall shows both the Roman and the Medieval parts of the wall. In the Roman section of the wall you can see four tile bonding courses and facing stones laid in roughly regular courses. In the upper medical section, the facing stones are less regular. In places the rubble core of the wall is visible where the facing stones are now missing. #thelondonspy #davidharry #romanlondon #londonwall #romanbritain #toweroflondon #londonhistory #londonguide

Today is the opening of the new Roman military life exhibition at the British Museum I managed to get in and it’s just incredible. I really want to go back and do more videos. I did my degree in Latin and ancient Greek so this is meat and drink to me ##davidharry##thelondonspy##romanempire##romanhistory##romanlondon##tourguide##londonguide

This is such a bizarre example of the use of the architectural practice called façadism. Normally it's for a very old building that has to be demolished internally and just keeps external frontage, or sometimes it's used where there was a railway line behind a row of buildings that need to keep the street aesthetic view perfect, however in this case, it seems to serve no purpose whatsoever. #thelondonspy #davidharry #facade #facadeofhouses #architecture #londonarchitecture

Walking to work today I couldn't resist telling the story of the house of commons and the rude shadows passed by the lattice work Westminster Bridge, are they meant to be a comment on the behaviour of members of Parliament? By the way my guests never turned up for my Harry Potter at all, but at least I've been paid. #thelondonspy #davidharry #houseofcommons #parliament #rude #westminster #politicians

The students I met are Olya Mitchell, Claire Goble and Marina Widdman. #thelondonspy #davidharry #bookillustration #childrensbook #childrensbookillustration #graduateshow
