It’s time for another cringey reel, but every time I hear this song this is literally what I hear in my head 😂 Anyway, I get a lot of questions about which paintbrush I use in my art set and let’s be real, artists have about a trillion of these things lying around.
I find them in my car, my bag, my clutch, my hair, the cat scatters them around when she sneaks into the studio, they’re in my cupboard, in jars or water soaking, at my workshops and used on my murals. But a good old filbert brush is my absolute favourite.
I usually get them from @spotlightstores or the local art store and I use them for everything. To be honest I rarely use anything but a filbert brush in all of my works and I’ve just found ways to make them work for me. After all, it’s not about the size but how you use it, isn’t that what they say? 😂
What is your favourite brush? Let’s see what is the most commonly used! @reeves_au is my favourite brand! Also please note this isn’t sponsored 😂😂

Excited to have several mural projects coming up over the coming months! Both public and private. And they’re not all bird related either, which will be a fun change! I’m also prepping some works for Brisbane’s first Affordable Art Fair! Busy times ahead! ·2023-11-21So my latest mural had a lot of smaller details, which, when painting on a textured wall, can be very fiddly to do, and very obvious if not quite right. Butterflies are obviously symmetrical! And my usually methods weren’t going to be as convenient. I was battling heat and rain none stop for this project, and just wanted a super quick and efficient way to get the butterfly on the wall and looking symmetrical. My printer had clearly not printed my reference picture properly, so I figured.. why not cut it out and trace around it? Super fast, super efficient and now we have butterflies that aren’t painfully unsymmetrical 😂 What do you think of this trick? 🫣 maybe you have a better idea. Shake I forget to film the process most of the time! . . . #paintingprocess #paintinghack #paintingvideo #processvideoart #artprocessvideo #muraltip #muralist #rockhamptonmuralist ##muralhack #paintingtimelapse

·26m ago I always start with the eye. Before the feathers, before the beak—because the eye sets the entire mood of the bird I’m bringing to life. It’s not just about accuracy; it’s about personality. Is this lorikeet bold and mischievous? Gentle and observant? The way I paint its eye—subtle hues or exaggerated contrast—decides that. And once I get it right? That’s when the magic happens. Suddenly, the canvas isn’t just paint—it’s alive. The bird is watching you, telling a story, pulling you in. If I don’t capture that moment, the whole painting feels off. No soul, no spark, nothing that makes you stop scrolling and feel something. I’ve been told hundreds of times that the way I paint eyes is captivating. Maybe it’s because I don’t just paint them—I see them. And once they lock onto you, it’s impossible to look away. 🎥 Watch this eye come to life, stroke by stroke, in this timelapse. Drop a 🦜 if you feel it too. #birdart #lorikeet #wildlifeartist #paintingprocess #timelapseart #artistsoninstagram #australianbirds #realismart #arttimelapse #birdeyes

·5d ago They must wonder what I’m doing, wondering around my yard with some paintings and posing like Zoolanded 🫣 my reaction says it all. Anyway, I completed two paintings this week.. TWO! (Actually three if you count the bird cut out I did). Yes they are smaller ones, but hours go into each piece. (My back is so sore - hello hunchback of Notre Dame. I seriously need to work on my posture. Anywho, I’m working hard to get as many paintings completed as possible before May. I’ve been averaging 1 a week but I was given some incredibly exciting news about something in May, and I want to be ready! So I’m trying to get this collection rolling. These pieces will be available in May..more on my exciting news later 🫣 . . . . . . #paintingreveal #paintingprocess #artworkreveal #australianartist #birdpainting #birdartwork #fypart #affordableart #artprocessvideo #fypart #artwork

·6d ago Ever seen a galah do a full 360°? Neither have I—but my canvas sure has. 🤪🎨 This painting took 10+ hours, endless layers of glazing, and way too many rotations to count. (Seriously, try and guess how many times I flipped it!) Obsessed with Aussie birds? Love seeing the art process? Stick around—this galah is part of a special collection dropping in May! 🦜✨ #galah #birdpainting #australianbirds #wildlifeart #artreel #paintingprocess #arttimelapse #paintingsbycaitlin
