·17h ago 🚫🥓 Processed Meats & Cancer Risk👇🏼 Did you know that consuming processed meats like bacon and sausages can increase your risk of cancer? These meats increase risk for 4 reasons: 1️⃣Nitrates/Nitrites: These are added to processed meats to preserve color and prevent spoilage. In lab studies, these compounds form cancer-causing compounds, carcinogens. 2️⃣Smoking: Smoked meats contain PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons), substances that are formed at high-heat and considered carcinogenic. 3️⃣Cooking at high temperatures: Meats cooked at high temperatures can also contain PAHs and heterocyclic amines (HCAs), which can damage DNA. 4️⃣Heme iron: The heme iron found in red meat may damage the lining of the colon. Want to learn more about the science behind processed meats, plant-based alternatives, and the safest cooking methods? Or curious about organic and nitrate-free options? I’ve got all the answers for you! Check out my brand new “Processed Meats Ultimate guidebook”, packed with all the info you need to make healthier choices around meats to reduce colon cancer risk.🫶🏼🥳 ✨ Get it now for just $19 – limited time offer! ·14h ago Replying to @cb0010110 Here are five simple reasons why the alkaline diet doesn’t work: Your body keeps its pH in balance. The body has natural systems (like your kidneys and lungs) that tightly regulate your blood pH, keeping it slightly alkaline around 7.4—no matter what you eat. Food doesn’t change your blood pH. The pH of food you eat affects your urine pH temporarily, not your blood or overall body pH. Cancer isn’t caused by “acidity.” Cancer develops due to genetic changes and other complex factors—not because your body is too “acidic.” Your stomach is naturally acidic. Stomach acid has a pH of 1.5–3.5 to help digest food, and it’s not affected by “alkaline” foods. No solid evidence supports it. There’s no scientific proof that an alkaline diet prevents or cures cancer. Healthy eating matters more than “alkalinity.” Say goodbye to confusion and uncertainty. ·14h ago Replying to @Mie_518 ⏳ Intermittent Fasting & Cancer: Separating Fact from Fiction ⏳ Intermittent fasting (IF) has gained popularity, but when it comes to cancer prevention and treatment, there are some important things to know: 1️⃣ Not Ideal During Treatment: Cancer treatment can take a toll on your body, and fasting may make it harder to meet your calorie and protein needs. Maintaining your weight and staying nourished is key for better treatment outcomes and recovery. Flexibility with eating is crucial! 2️⃣ Does IF Lower Cancer Risk? While intermittent fasting can lead to weight loss and reduced fat tissue, which indirectly lowers cancer risk, fasting itself isn’t a magic bullet. Lower body fat is associated with reduced cancer risk—but fasting doesn’t automatically eliminate cancer cells. 3️⃣ Fasting Doesn’t “Starve” Cancer Cells: There’s a myth that fasting starves cancer cells and makes them disappear. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. Many cancer survivors who are already malnourished still see cancer progress. The bottom line: nourishment, not restriction, is what supports your body in the fight against cancer. ✨ A Balanced Approach Works Best: While IF can work for some as a long-term weight management strategy, others do better with balanced meals spread throughout the day. For cancer prevention, a modest calorie deficit, gradual weight loss, and sustainable lifestyle changes are more effective. 🥗 Focus on what’s proven: A nutrient-dense, well-balanced diet with plenty of fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats is your best bet for both cancer prevention and survivorship. ·16h ago Replying to @IAmTawnyLouise 🚫 Myth Busted: Fresh Fruits & Veggies and Low White Blood Cells 🚫 There’s a widespread misconception in oncology nutrition that cancer patients with low white blood cells or neutropenia must cut out all fresh fruits and vegetables to avoid bacterial infections. But here’s the truth: it’s not the fresh produce that’s the issue—it’s food safety practices that matter most! 🥗🍎 Studies have compared cancer patients on a "neutropenic diet" (which excludes raw fruits and veggies) to those with similar low white blood cell counts who continued eating fresh produce but followed proper food safety protocols. The results? No significant differences in bacterial infections or translocation were found between the two groups. 💡 In fact, including a variety of fruits and vegetables during treatment provides essential nutrients that support overall health, improve immune function, and help with recovery. Cutting them out unnecessarily could mean missing out on key benefits! 🔑 Key Takeaway: Fresh produce isn’t the enemy—improper handling and hygiene are. Washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly, avoiding cross-contamination, and storing food properly are simple yet powerful steps to safely enjoy nutrient-rich options. ✨ Better nutrition leads to better treatment outcomes and faster recovery. Don’t fear the produce aisle—embrace it with food safety in mind! Citations: Sonbol MB, Jain T, Firwana B, et al. ·16h ago Replying to @chad evans The relative risk (RR) of cancer from alcohol is a measure of how much more likely someone is to develop cancer if they drink alcohol. A RR of greater than 1.0 indicates that drinking alcohol increases the risk of cancer. Relative risk of cancer from alcohol: Oral and pharyngeal cancer: Moderate drinkers have a 1.8-fold higher risk, while heavy drinkers have a 5-fold higher risk. Larynx cancer: Moderate drinkers have a 1.4-fold higher risk, while heavy drinkers have a 2.6-fold higher risk. Colorectal cancer: Drinking about 3.5 drinks a day increases the risk by 1.5 times. Breast cancer: Drinking about 3.5 drinks a day increases the risk by 1.5 times. ·2d ago 🥓Let’s clear the air about food and cancer risk! 🌭 The only two foods clearly linked to cancer risk are processed meats (like bacon, salami, sausages) and alcohol. 🍷🥓 BUT FIRST - Do you want all the details (and simple science on processed meats and cancer risk!?) My #1 most popular guidebook is ON SALE NOW for just $19! It’s packed with evidence-based info so you get clarity and facts about processed meats! link in bio to grab your copy today! Here’s why: * Alcohol metabolizes into acetaldehyde, a known carcinogen, increasing the risk of breast, mouth, throat, esophageal, and colon cancers. * Processed meats contain nitrites and other compounds that can damage DNA. Plus, high-heat cooking produces carcinogenic chemicals like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. * But here’s the good news: That leaves most foods off the hook! 🎉 Now, let’s talk about the scary headlines:
Red Dye No. 3 was recently banned, but this won’t take effect for years, and it’s based on very high-dose animal studies—not human evidence. In fact, the FDA could remove it from the banned list before any changes take place. Aspartame: The science says it’s safe! Regulatory agencies around the world reaffirm its safety when consumed within the acceptable daily intake. You’d need to drink 20+ cans of diet soda every single day to reach that level, which again is a safe level. Sugar: It doesn’t cause cancer directly, but a diet high in added sugars may lead to weight gain and chronic conditions that raise cancer risk. The key is balance, not avoidance. Plant Oils: Not inflammatory when used correctly! Oils like olive, avocado, or canola can be a great addition to a healthy diet when cooked at their appropriate smoke points. It’s less about specific foods and more about your day-to-day patterns. 💡 Want all the details on processed meats? My #1 most popular guidebook is ON SALE NOW for just $19! It’s packed with evidence-based info so you get clarity and facts about processed meats to help you make sense of cancer and all meats so you can enjoy them without fear!
