We noticed Milo acting a bit strange the day we were leaving to go on our destination wedding. We weren’t too concerned as he seemed happy but we told the house sitters to keep an eye on him. The next day, Milo’s back legs gave out and I instantly knew that my worst fear was coming true. Milo had stage 5 IVDD and it came on that quickly with barely any warning. One minute he was fine next he was dragging his back legs unalbe to control his bladder. He would have been a stage 1 when we left. After a CT scan it was comfirmed. Milo went under surgery immediately. The surgery itself can cost up to 10k but we were prepared for this as IVDD is quite common in dachshunds. Luckily we do have pet insurance that will cover most of the bills. This can be the reality of owning a sausage dog. The surgery went well but were not out of the woods yet. Because of Milos severety as a stage 5, there is a 60% chance he will have normal function again. The next week or two will determine that. At the moment were still away as we get married tomorrow but unsure if we should cancel the honeymoon and go back home. Either way we know he is in the best care. Please keep praying for him. We appreciate all the love you have given. And will try to keep you updated as much as possible ❤️
