Hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in Gaza began returning to the northern Gaza Strip on Monday, for the first time since the war started, after mediators brokered an agreement tied to the release of one Israeli captive.
According to the Gaza health ministry, around 650,000 displaced people in the central and southern Gaza Strip will return to what is left of their homes in the north of the enclave.
The failure of Israel's plan to empty north Gaza has - temporarily at least - given hope to hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza that they will be able to rebuild their old lives.

Donald Trump says he has a plan for Gaza: “We’ll find them a plot of land… build them some nice beautiful places where they can be happy.” But for Palestinians, this is not new. As British-Tunisian writer and Middle East expert Soumaya Ghannoushi explains, the idea of displacing Gaza’s population has been pursued since Israel occupied the territory in 1967. From Israeli leaders openly discussing ways to “thin” Gaza’s population to today’s policies of mass destruction, the goal has remained the same: to remove Palestinians from their land. Yet, despite relentless bombings, forced displacement, and years of blockade, the people of Gaza have already answered: “We are not leaving.”

·1-21Iran condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's vow to "finish the job" against the country as a breach to the UN Charter in a press conference on Monday. "Threatening others is both a gross violation of international law and the United Nations Charter," foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei told reporters, adding that Netanyahu “should be held accountable at an international level”. The Israeli prime minister made the comments at a press conference with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, stating the pair discussed plans to dismantle Iran’s nuclear capacity. US intelligence agencies have warned that Israel was likely to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities within months.

·1d ago "Every time we protest, it matters." Ben Jamal, Director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, spoke at this weekend's pro-Palestine rally in London, saying it is crucial that everyone marches because we are facing new attempts to repress our movements. He said, "You all know what happened at our last demonstration," referring to the arrests of peaceful protesters by UK authorities on 18 January and the subsequent charges issued against many people, including himself. Jamal also criticised US efforts, saying that Trump and Netanyahu are proposing a crime of historic magnitude—"a second Nakba of mass ethnic cleansing."

·2d ago A new advert starring Snoop Dogg and Tom Brady has caused backlash online. In the "Stand Up to Hate" Super Bowl commercial, the stars trade "I hate you" statements, highlighting that the reasons for hate are often stupid. It was funded by the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism (FCAS), an organisation that claims its mission is to "educate and inspire" people to stand up against Jewish hate and all hate. But critics have pointed out that the FCAS has a history of equating criticism of Israel and Zionism with anti-semitism and that this is yet another example of Israeli propaganda funded by Robert Kraft. 🎥 @Deana Hassanein Soni
