Here’s how we repotted this beautiful Orchid in time for a Mother’s Day Gift 🌺
🌱 When removing the plant from its original pot, check for any fungus or parasites. We only cut the dead roots that were soft and felt like paper. This gives them a chance to regrow healthier roots.
🌱 Use soil medium that is non suffocating like orchid bark or sphagnum moss. Coco coir is a good sustainable option. We didn’t add too much medium in the pot so that it can still have well aeration.
🌱 Only repot your Orchids when necessary, or at least every two years when the plant becomes root bound or when the medium starts to decompose. For our plant, it was definitely pot bound so it needed a good repotting and TLC.
💭 Do you like this way of repotting an Orchid?
Don’t forget to pair your plant gift with a nice planter to go with it. Moms deserve the best! 🤍

·2024-11-30Do you have 4/4 of these plants? ✋🏻 📢PSA: Knowing the right spot for each plant isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s also about doing our best to mimic their natural habitats. 🌳 Part 2 — Where to place your hanging plants! 1️⃣ Monkey’s Tail
Place it beside a window where it can soak up plenty of bright light—this cactus thrives on sunshine! Its long, trailing stems make it a stunning addition to bright, airy spaces. Caution: Still try to avoid placing it in spots with intense afternoon sun, as its stems can overheat and scorch. 2️⃣ Spanish Moss
Perfect for areas with soft, filtered light and high humidity, like bathrooms or shaded corners. Spanish Moss thrives when it’s not exposed to harsh, direct sunlight and adds a soft, ethereal look to dimmer spaces. Caution: Avoid placing it in overly dark spots where it will receive barely enough light to thrive. 3️⃣ Rhipsalis
Mount it on a wall for a striking vertical garden effect. It thrives in indirect or dappled light, making it ideal for spaces with soft, filtered light. Caution: Direct sunlight can scorch Rhipsalis’ stems, so avoid spots with harsh sun, like south-facing windows without curtains. Instead, go for areas with diffused light, such as near an east-facing window or in a shaded room with good ambient light. 4️⃣ Ferns
I’ve placed my ferns directly hanging on a window, and they’re loving it! My window faces east, so they enjoy gentle morning light. If you have an east-facing window, it’s a fantastic spot for ferns. North-facing windows can also work well. Caution: Hanging ferns on a window is totally fine, but avoid placing them on south- or west-facing windows with harsh, direct sunlight, as their delicate fronds can dry out or burn. If brighter windows are your only option, sheer curtains can help diffuse the light. If you found these tips helpful, hit 📌 SAVE and follow @kansodesigns for Part 3 — let’s talk about practical tips to take your plants from “hanging in there” to absolutely thriving! . . . #hangingplanters #trailingplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #houseplantclub #indoorplants #plantstyling #indoorplantdecor #plantsofinstagram #rhipsalis #spanishmoss #ferns #monkeystail

·2024-11-26That’s because roots NEED oxygen! 🌱 Roots ROT in wet soil because when the soil stays soggy for too long, the air pockets fill with water, pushing out the oxygen. 🌬️ This creates “anaerobic” conditions, leading to root rot. 💀👎🏻 💧 Wet soil encourages the growth of “anaerobic bacteria” 🦠 and fungi 🦠 that thrive without oxygen and can cause root diseases. 📌 1. POOR drainage and 2. The WRONG type of soil are the primary reasons for this! These conditions can result in overwatering, depriving the roots of the oxygen they need. 🤔 BUT what about roots growing in water? WHY don’t they rot? 👉🏻 Roots can adapt to water by developing specialized structures that allow them to absorb dissolved oxygen. 🌿💧 To maintain “sufficient” oxygen levels and prevent the growth of bacteria that thrive in stagnant water, change the water entirely or top it up with fresh water at least once a week. 📅 So YES, roots grown in water CAN get root rot and die too if not given proper care! 🤷🏻♀️ 🪴If you’re growing a plant in water long-term, adding an air pump or air stones can help keep the roots healthy by ensuring adequate oxygen levels in the water — have you tried these methods before? We’re curious! 👀 Let me know your experience with this and let’s have a chat about it in the comments if it still sounds confusing! 🫶🏻🪴 Follow @kansodesigns for plant tips and home decor aesthetics! 🌿✨ #planttips #indoorplants #waterpropagation #rootrot #plants #kansodesigns #billitiae

·2024-10-15Here’s the easiest way to quickly propagate more ZZ plants! 😍🌿 1. Grab a sharp knife or pruning shears 🔪 and start cutting your plant to multiply it 🌱🌱 2. I plant the cuttings in perlite, but you can also use cocopeat, moss, or a mix of these 🪴 3. Water the cuttings well💧 4. Keep them in a low-light spot 🌑 at 25-30°C for 30-50 days 🕒 5. Once rhizomes form, plant them in light, nutrient-rich soil 🌱 so they can root. Then move them to a place with good indirect light ☀️. You can also use fertilizers to boost root and rhizome growth 🌟 6. After 4-6 months, you’ll see new leaves sprouting! 🌿✨ Excited to try this with our other ZZ plants (black, variegated, burgundy)! 😍 📌Follow Kanso Designs for part 2 in a few weeks! 💚 💭What’s your favorite method for propagating ZZs? #houseplant #plantparenthood #plantcommunity #houseplantjournal #zzplant #houseplantplantclub #propagation #Indoorjungle #houseplantaddict
