This is the ONLY way I’ll grow a Calathea! I have over 250 houseplants and I put off owning calathea for years to avoid the heart break. Growing calathea in water was absolutely unheard of at the time. I developed a love for growing plants in water (it’s beautiful, you don’t have fungus gnats, and it’s far less care compared to plants in soil), and a few years ago, I figured I’d try my hand at growing Calathea this way! At first I tried LECA and it was insanely easy and my Calathea thrived! I then decided - let’s go full hydro and only use water! My Pin Stripe Calathea here went into water, roots and all 7 months ago. She’s absolutely thrived ever since (aside from the one time she ran out of water for a few days and I didn’t realize it 😬 she lost alotta leaves and got crispy at the time). She’s got constant new growth, that’s healthier than any soil grown calathea I’ve ever seen! Heres my routine with her: I always add 1/4 strength HHHP fertilizer whenever the water is low (linked in my bio with a discount code). I typically just top the water off and keep it right at the base of the plant. Unless, the water/vase looks dirty, I’ll do a full change out! I try to only use distilled water and avoid tap. The salts and minerals and tap can potentially make her leaves get crispy if you have super hard water. I give her a full bath every few months to clean the foliage, (this increases growth because she’s capturing the maximum amount of sunlight she can). It also keeps her pest free because Calathea are a Spider Mites favorite snack, and they’ll pop up out of no where. I use Plant Soap for this, which you can also put into a spray bottle and spray the plant down instead of submerging it like I did! That’s linked in my bio too under “plant spa day kit” Follow for more houseplant help! Much love, plant fam! xo - Chantel #calathea #hydroponics #houseplants #planttips #plantsmakemehappy #fyp #plantspaday

This is HANDS DOWN my most used plant essential on watering day! These hanging catch trays can hang from any 4”-9” planter (potentially even larger depending on the depth of the planter) and effortlessly catches all of the drainage water, keeping you hands free! I’ve been there, done that, when it comes to doing questionable things on watering day. From standing on random furniture to grab a plant to take it to the sink, to watering and holding a bowl under a pot to catch the water myself, to even using pots with no drainage to avoid this altogether *gasp* (please don’t do this)! This will 100% make watering days, less of a chore. PLUS, when it’s not in use you can leave it hanging from your plant and it doubles as a stunning piece of plant decor 🥹 Linked in bio, or at channygrayhome.com to get your own! (YES, after HUNDREDS of questions about my personal catch trays that you’ve seen hanging around in my plant room, I’m FINALLY able to create and share them with YOU.) I couldn’t be more excited for this!!! #planthack #plantsmakemehappy #wateringday #houseplantsofinstagram #sunroom #hangingplants #planttips #fy

This repot took up my entire Saturday. Brb while I go take a nap 😂😂😂 Honestly, I knew she needed help but I didn’t realize she needed THAT much help 😂 Queen M is worth it though 🥹👏 All of this is EXACTLY why I say you should ALWAYS repot as soon as you bring a plant home! Due to cold damage I waited a couple of weeks to repot so that she could settle and I could assess any cold damage that happened. Little did I know what I thought was progressing cold damage was actually not cold damage and was a result of all of THIS. Not knowing everything that was going on in the soil would have led to improper care on my part and confusion as to what was going on so I could properly help. I’m so glad we got it all figured out and she’ll be on the mend 🥹 What do you think plant fam?! If you’re not already follow along for more helpful tips on your jungle journey! I’ve gotten lots of request for the drip tray mat that I used! It’s linked under “plant essentials” in my bio! “My soil mix” is linked there too if you need it! Xo - chantel

You’ve got snake plant care alllllll twisted! 🏜️These plants are native to Africa where they grow in hot, dry climates often in FULL sun. Whenever the internet decided to deem these low light plants, it sentenced snake plants to a slow death. Please, put your snake plant IN A WINDOW! 💧Don’t be scared of watering them!! Think about desert conditions when you think about watering your snake plant! In the desert, there are long droughts, but when it rains, IT POURS. Snake plants love lots of water at watering time. When dry, I’ll top water mine to flush out salts and minerals, and then bottom water it for an hour or so (sometimes overnight when I forget 😬🤷🏼‍♀️) this allows the dry, hydrophobic soil to get fully saturated like it needs! Side note - I didn’t mention this in the video, but try to avoid getting water in the center of its rosettes. Indoors where airflow isn’t super high, this water can sit from days to weeks and cause the base of your snake plant to rot. And one last time just so that I really drive this point home, PUT YOUR DANG SNAKE PLANT IN A WINDOW!! Also, follow for more planty tips on your jungle journey ❤️🤌🏼 K, love you, bye 🫶🏼❤️

For several months I’ve been drinking @naturessunshine #Chlorophyll Stick Packs, and I feel like I’m watering myself first over my plants. It is incredibly reassuring to know that I’m doing something for my health that’s above and beyond what I’m typically providing. I keep these on my counter as a reminder and over the past few months I’ve felt wonderful when I’m consistently remembering to incorporate it. The new apple crisp and sweet melon flavors taste delicious while providing detox, intestinal, digestive, and immune health. Check out #NaturesSunshine for yourself at the link in my bio! ☺️ #naturessunshinepartner

Link in bio under “CGH hanging catch trays”! Who am I kidding? No one likes taking a million trips to and from the kitchen, dripping plants ruining surfaces, standing on questionable things to get plants down to water, and making plant care take far longer than it needs to. THIS necessity is BACK IN STOCK!! The hanging catch tray is a game changer on watering days! I recommend at least two if you have several hanging plants, so that you can keep the water flowin’ and alternate moving the catch trays from plant to plant. You’ve never experienced how easy watering your plants can be until you’ve used one 💦 It’s hands down my most used planty item! Save for later, or send to a friend who could use a necessity like this! Love ya, frond! xo - chantel

# AD When you download the Target app you’ll get access to all of the deals and discounts - like the 20% off Target Circle discount for college students! If I could give advice to young Chantel - first in her family to go to college (12 years ago 🥺), I would have told myself to be more intentional with my dorm room decor. It’s imperative that a dorm room (or any home for that matter) is not only functional but practical for this phase of life, all while giving a feeling of calmness during such hectic times. Ya’ll know what level of @target addict I am, so partnering with them to get my niece off on the right foot is a DREAM. Between you and I, while I was shopping these sales I discovered a few things I’m SUPER excited about for myself! 🥹 shop my “Target Storefront” linked in my bio! xo - Chantel Verification required. Linked in bio under “living wall” THIS living wall is INSANELY easy and low cost considering the price of typical living wall kits. I’d recommend using plants with the same watering requirements. Any pothos, philodendron, monstera, scindapsus, would be perfect together! The exact plants that I used are: Monstera Deliciousa Albo Monstera Standlyana Scindapsus Exotica Golden Pothos Pink Princess Philodendron Silver Sword Philodendron Philodendron Summer Glory Philodendron McDowell Alocasia Regal Shields Maranta Beauty Kim I used two 4” plants per planter! When I water, I start with the top planter and the water trickles down through each perfectly. I hope you’ll give it a try and create your own! You’ll be so happy you did!!
