President Trump’s increase on tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to 25% has prompted retaliatory measures from the European Union, with the group’s Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announcing 26 billion euros ($28 billion) in counter tariffs. “Tariffs are taxes. They are bad for business and worse for consumers,” she said. “…Nobody needs that on both sides. Neither in the European Union nor in the United States.” #trump #europe #europeanunion #eu #tariffs #worldnews #news

Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) on Thursday explained why there's "no way" he could vote for the House GOP funding bill that would avoid a government shutdown. He blamed President Trump for not trying to negotiate with Democrats on a measure that needs 60 Senate votes by Friday night to prevent a shutdown. "This is Donald Trump's decision," Gallego told CBS News' Caitlin Huey-Burns. Senate Democrats are considering a plan that would pave the way for a GOP bill to keep the government funded for six months in exchange for a doomed-to-fail vote on their own 30-day alternative, facing an uncomfortable choice between allowing the Republican measure to pass or letting the government shut down. #az #shutdown #dc

Among the more than 31 environmental regulations the Trump administration has said it is considering rolling back is the EPA’s “endangerment finding,” a landmark 2009 finding that six greenhouse gases pose a danger to public health. As CBS News’ David Schechter explains, this finding is how the EPA regulates greenhouse gases as pollutants like they regulate other kinds of pollutants, and without the rule, “it would make it very difficult for the EPA to regulate climate change.” Read more about the EPA’s announcement to roll back environmental regulations at the link. #epa #environment #environmentalnews #climate #climatechange #climatenews #politics #greenhousegases #health #pollution

Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) on Thursday reacted to a Republican colleague misgendering her in a House hearing earlier this week. "I appear to live rent-free in the minds of some of my Republican colleagues," McBride said, adding that the GOP is "obsessed" with cultural wars more than helping Americans. At a hearing on Tuesday, Rep. Keith Self (R-TX) referred to McBride, the first openly transgender member of Congress, as "Mr. McBride." This set off a confrontation between Self and Rep. William Keating (D-MA) before the meeting was abruptly adjourned. #news #dc #trans #sarah
