Senators from both parties reacted Wednesday to President Trump calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a "dictator without elections" and blaming Ukraine for starting the war with Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Some Republicans distanced themselves from Trump’s characterization of Zelenskyy, with Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska telling reporters, "I would certainly never refer to President Zelenskyy as a dictator." #news #politics #trump #ukraine #zelensky

Brandon Guffey, a Republican state representative in South Carolina, delivered an emotional testimony before Congress about losing his teenage son, Gavin, to suicide after an online sextortion scam. Guffey spoke Wednesday at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on children's online safety. A Nigerian man was extradited to the U.S. last month after he was indicted in connection with the sextortion of Guffey's son, who died in 2022. Guffey is suing Meta, which owns Instagram and Facebook, alleging that it fails to protect children from predators on its platforms. Meta declined to comment to CBS News about Guffey's case, but said it had launched new safety tools in recent years to combat sextortion. The company warned last year that sexual extortion scams are on the rise, with criminals from Nigeria frequently targeting adult men in the U.S. #news #meta #tech #dc #sc
