Do using sheet masks have benefits or is it just for aesthetic?

Sheet masks are nourishing, hydrating face masks made from a thin sheet of paper soaked in serum. Sheet masks are an easy way to provide your skin with tons of moisture and essential nutrients. But it’s important to note that sheet masks do not cleanse or exfoliate your skin. Instead, think of sheet masks as a super effective serum application method. The mask paper actually seals your skin so that moisture and nutrients can’t escape, allowing all the beneficial molecules to sink deep into your skin.

Tips on how to get the most out of your sheet mask
1. Cleanse your face: the most effective way to use your sheet mask is on a clean face that is free of oil, dirt and makeup. So, start by cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser using a cold/warm water (not hot please)

2. Apply a toner: it is essential to apply your mask on a damp skin so applying a toner first will balance your skin’s PH level and open up your pores to receive the nutrients of the sheet mask. You want to make the most out of the serum on your mask? Don’t skip this step

3. Place the mask on your face: generally, sheet masks are a one size fit all so all you need to do is even it out with your fingertips to smoothen any bumps or wrinkles making sure it sits directly on your skin.

4. Waiting period: usually, the packaging of the mask will say to wait between 15-20 mins before taking it off. Please do not be tempted to leave it longer than prescribed thinking the longer you leave it the better. It is essential to remove the mask while it is still moist. If you leave it on until it runs dry, it can irritate your skin and even suck up moisture.

5. Do not wash off: there’s a misconception about washing off your face after using a mask. Sheet masks are basically sheets dipped into serum. Do you wash your serums off after application? No! Instead, just pat the residue of the serum into your skin. Also, squeeze the serum left from the wrapper and apply to your neck and hands. Trust me, it’s not giving struggle, you are just making judicious use of your money

6. Complete your routine: after your sheet mask, please go ahead to complete your routine by applying your moisturizer to seal in moisture. Also use your sunscreen if it is a morning routine.

BONUS TIP: always refrigerate your sheet mask before use! Imagine a cold serum on your face? Heaven! This just helps you relax and gives you that spa like experience at the comfort of your home. The cooking sensation will not only help soothe your skin, it can also help de-puff swollen face.
