Ear cropping is one of those traditions that really should be consigned to the history books. Sadly in much of the US it’s permitted to crop ears, and this week the winner of Westminster, the most prestigious dog show in the US, was very handsome Giant Schnauzer Monty - whose ears had sadly been mutilated. Ear cropping an cosmetic surgery which is painful and has no health benefit for the animal. I’m proud to practice as a vet in a country where ear cropping has long been illegal.
