How to make your baby shower eco friendly/crunchy (Part 2)!♻️👶🏻🌱 Save for later!📌 ♻️ Rent and borrow whatever you can! Even your outfit! — I rented the drink dispensers, umbrellas, peacock chair & pillow, jute rug, linens, and borrowed the arch backdrop from a friend, tables and chairs from the venue, and my dress! 🍊Forage what you can and use natural elements for decor! Once of the reasons I chose the cutie theme was because I knew I’d be able to forage for it. I asked around in my old local @buynothingproject group if anyone had any fruiting mandarin/clementine trees I could pick from! 🎈No balloons! Decor that becomes instantly trash after is about the least sustainable thing you can have at a party. Instead, opt for reusable yarn or fabric garlands, plants, flowers, rented backdrops, themed baby blankets or swaddles to use as decor/tablecloths, nursery decor, etc. 🧼Plastic free, vegan, & non-toxic party favor soaps! I love the idea of party favors people will actually use, and if there are leftovers you can use them yourself! 👶🏻 Collect & thrift baby clothes that match the theme and use as decor/garland! This is one of my favorites! Use clothespins to make garlands from them and then you’ll have precious memories from it already before baby even wears it ♻️Reusable metal cups, no single use plastic drinks! Get some metal party cups, you can reuse them or recycle after. Drink dispensers also save a lot of single use plastic! 🌿Palm leaf & bamboo cutlery and plates! Since we didn’t have kitchen access or catering at the venue, a compostable/disposable option was best 🌱All vegan and artificial dye free food/dessert bars! Obvi had to do this one, and everyone loved it! 📚On your invite, ask for new or used baby books instead of cards! Guest can write a nice note if they wish inside. Less waste and will think of the guest each time we read it to baby boy! ♻️Bring compostable bags for your guests to take home food/desserts! Since this was out of town we didn’t have a fridge or pantry to bring it all back to and didn’t want to waste. How to make your baby shower eco friendly/crunchy😍♻️🌿👶🏻✨ ♻️Instead of single use decor, use themed baby clothes in various sizes instead. Baby clothes are so cute for garlands, you can use wood clothespins or wooden baby hangers to hang them up and then your baby can wear them when they fit into them!🥹 🌼Use natural elements like flowers/plants to decorate, & no balloons! You can even send guests home with the flowers too and it makes a sweet party favor! Don’t think I need to explain the balloon thing, but as beautiful as balloons are, they are complete trash right after the party 🥲 ♻️ Rent linens, backdrops, borrow/rent whatever you can! A great way to save and make your party more eco friendly. I used @saguarosunset_rentals.az and Munkebo Linens 🌿All vegan food! No one is going to freak out if your baby shower is vegan, it’s one meal, and if the food is good that’s all that matters! ♻️Reusable metal cups, compostable palm leaf plates, & bamboo cutlery! We did my Arizona one at a venue that didn’t have a kitchen and we had to bring in all our own stuff, so transporting dirty glass cups, plates, and metal cutlery wasn’t an option for me — but if you’re hosting at a home or space with access to a kitchen, definitely go reusable rather than compostable! 🌿 Vegan, artificial dye free, & single use plastic free treats! Our decorated sugar cookies were also gluten free! Look for local natural bakers in your area and pickup in person. I used @begfordessert @darkhallcoffee ♻️Intentional decor - in this case I got a custom (Etsy) sign that I can reuse in the nursery! Functions as both decor for the party and art for later — win win 🙌🏼 🌿Non tox, vegan & plastic free soap party favors! It’s always nice to have something your guests can take home. I found this cute shop on Etsy that makes these custom and they’re free from all the nasties, vegan, arrive plastic free, and even if you have extras (which we did) it’s something you can use yourself! ♻️Rent your outfit! I love renting and especially for events it saves you money and the clothing has a longer life cycle. our sweet little lentil is a…. 🩷🩵👶🏻✨ . . . . GIRL!! Or so we thought for an entire 30 minutes and for all of our photos and videos 🩷😅 Turns out asking for a non-artificially dyed (and vintage heart vegan buttercream) cake was a tough ask and our lemon blueberry inside looked like a red/pink!😅🫠 It wasn’t until we called my mom and trusted gender secret keeper that she informed us it was actually in fact a BOY!🩵🩵🩵🩵 I had given our baker some natural dye ideas and non-artificial dye recommendations of how to make blue or pink pop more but needless to say it was definitely not clear to either of us it was a boy when we cut into it. So we had quite the surprise and it was a bit of a roller coaster, but it just goes to show you that even when you try to plan the perfect moment, some things don’t go to plan!
